My approach
I believe that the relationship between client and therapist is the foundation of effective therapy. The challenges and traumas in our life cannot only affect our mental health but our physical health, relationships and sense of self. Building a safe, compassionate environment is central, as clients often work through painful experiences, requiring careful guidance and patience.
I don’t believe that there is a singular way to work with trauma and therefore my approach is holistic and integrative meaning that I use different therapeutic models to work with each individual client as I don’t believe that one size fits all.
I offer a free 20 minute telephone conversation where we can discuss the reasons why you would like therapy and if you wish we can book an initial session. This will be an opportunity to discuss in more detail your needs and goals and gives you the chance to ask any questions that you might have.
I offer both short term and long term therapy which can be discussed during your initial session. I usually see clients once a week, at a regular time slot, for 50 minutes.
The process of therapy can be difficult and often painful so we will regularly review our work together and will go at a pace that you are comfortable with.

My philosophy

Where we came from can determine where we go i.e. we develop patterns and coping strategies to allow us to get through difficult situations. As human beings we are flawed, messy and vulnerable. I believe if we lean into these patterns and behaviours with compassion, we gain a greater sense of self-awareness. This in-turn gives us more choice, enabling us to make the changes that we need to live a more fulfilled life.
Healing from our past can be painful and uncomfortable, I believe that the most effective healing comes from connecting with others, allowing our pain to be witnessed and heard. I have found that playfulness and humour can help and when used appropriately, humour can act as a tool for resilience, empowering clients to see that joy and levity are possible, even during times of healing.
